About 10,000 Peruvian and foreign tourists are expected to visit the northern Cajamarca region during the long holiday weekend of April 21-24, local authorities estimate. A packed program of religious and tourism-related activities has been developed to celebrate the Semana Santa, or Holy Week, one of the most important holidays of the year in Cajamarca. The celebrations are likely to attract many Peruvian tourists, mostly from Trujillo (La Libertad), Chiclayo (Lambayeque) and Lima. In addition to the religious aspects of the festivities, visitors will also enjoy very interesting archeological sites like the Baños del Inca (thermal springs) and Atahualpa's Ransom Room as well as the Porcon Farm and the Ventanillas de Otuzco (Otuzco Windows). Cajamarca is situated in the northern highlands of Peru and is the capital of the Cajamarca region. It is located approximately 863 km north of the capital Lima. Source: andina.pe |
