Peruvian Culture Minister Juan Ossio has hailed as "remarkable and amazing" the discovery of a tomb belonging to a noble from the Wari culture in the district of Vilcabamba in Cusco. The artifacts were unearthed in the archaeological site of Espiritu Pampa, in the jungle of Cuzco, and could change the history of this pre-Hispanic culture. Ossio said the discovery raises new questions about the expansion of the Wari culture and its relation to the Incas. “Dutch anthropologist Tom Zuidema once told me that maybe the Incas were a group dominated by the Wari, but they rebelled, got their independence and inherited the culture patterns from the Wari to develop their political system”, said the minister to RPP radio. Minister Ossio went on to say that the Incas and the Wari are the most important pre Hispanic cultures. Furthermore, Ossio noted that a total of nine tombs were found and one of them (Lord of Wari) belonged to the nobility because of its outfit. Source: andina.pe |
