Nearly 2.3 million visitors will travel around Peru during the Holy Week holidays, generating more than US$ 170 million for the tourist sector, reported Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mara Seminario. She said that these economic resources will boost the tourism sector, specially the regions, which will benefit by the large inflow of tourists. It is expected that 2.27 million domestic tourists and 25,000 foreign tourists travel to different sites of the country. These figures represent a 17 percent rise compared to the same period last year. According to last report “Peru: Inbound Tourism”, based on the National Survey of Travels conducted by Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), domestic tourists spend an average of S/. 330 soles (US$ 117.4) for 5.6 nights of stay, while domestic hikers spend S/. 80 soles in average. This survey is based on information submitted by Norvial, concessionary company of the tolls Variante Pasamayo, Serpentin Pasamayo and Paraíso-Huacho; as well as the Special Project of National Transport Infrastructure (Provías Nacional), which manages tolls in Cusco, Tumbes, La Libertad, Lima, Lambayeque, Ica and Piura.
