Cusco, Sep. 30. Gap year travellers visiting Peru can embark on one of the best treks in the world – the classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. In an article for the online travel guide BootsnAll, writer Adam Seper said the Incas took the very same route to the sacred city over 500 years ago. "Many of the same steps along the trail remain, along with a plethora of other ruins," he remarked.
Mr Seper claimed that the highlight of the journey is the Sun Gate, where hikers catch their first glimpse of Machu Picchu as the sun rises. "Walking through the Sun Gate and glimpsing the infamous Lost City of the Incas was one of the most powerful moments of my life," he insisted. The writer recommended booking a place on an Inca Trail tour with a reputable company well in advance to avoid disappointment, i-to-i.com reports. He also advised travellers to purchase suitable hiking gear, including trekking poles if possible. Source: andina.pe
