The Regional Directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Dircetur) of Puno will launch a tourism campaign looking to get away from last week’s protests against mining concessions and bring back visitors. Head of Dircetur Puno, Lourdes Abarca, said that this campaign will enable tourists to learn about Puno’s art, wealth, culture and tourist circuits, as well as the kindness of its population. She explained that such initiative will be spread throughout the Internet. In addition, the proposal will be presented to Peru’s Tourism and Export Promotion Board (Promperu) in order to have its support. Abarca recalled that tourism is a very sensitive industry and causes significant economic loss, as “the city depends on tourism, which diversifies the productive base and creates sustainable jobs”. “Protests affected our image, but Puno is not like that. We will continue working to develop tourist products and improve circuits,” the head of Dircetur told Andina news agency. Source: andina.pe |
