Nasca, Oct. 24. The management plan for the cultural and natural heritage in Nasca and Palpa area is designed not only to preserve the exceptional value of the sites but to turn them into a tool to promote cultural and economic development of communities involved, said Fernando Berrios, Program Coordinator at Unesco Lima office. The document was released today in Ica before local authorities and civil society components in order to be validated and formally issued to the Peruvian State. "The plan has been prepared through a participative process since May last year, which involved the State, regional and local governments, civil society, private companies, among others," he commented.
"The plan seeks to be the bearings, a regulator. Objectives are intended to be achieved in different periods involving all the parties mentioned above. We intend to make recommendations to preserve the site not only in a historical and immovable way, but as a tool of cultural and economic development," he noted. The project, which initially included Nasca and Las Pampas de Jumana as part of the cooperation agreement between The National Institute of Culture (INC) and the National Copesco Plan, and a contract between INC and the Unesco representation in Peru. The project included Palpa province for the several cultural and historical resources available at this place. According to Berrios, the project includes a zoning plan to establish which zones can be exploited by humans to undertake different activities such as agriculture, farming and others. Other component serves to define which sector will be totally intangible and which should be vulnerable. It also contains a proposal of sustainable tourism, so that the site shall not be destroyed by tourism and, instead, industry will manage resources without destroying environment. The plan also includes a management plan, which will specify what the zone needs to make better use of resources in order to benefit the community. Source: andina.pe
