INCA CEREMONIAL OFFERINGS FOUND IN MACHU PICCHU
INC archaeologist Ruben Maqque said that the findings include three ceramics or miniature aryballos with globular body and covered with stone slabs forming a circle, which would be part of a ceremonial rite of payment to the land, the only of its kind found in Machu Picchu.
This discovery occurred in an area known as "cemetery" near the viewpoint of the Inca citadel, visited by hundreds of tourists every day. The archaeological works in the area began in 2007. There were no traces of skeletal remains, which rules out the hypothesis that the place was an Inca cemetery. However, archaeologists believe that this was an exclusive site for ceremonial rites.
Archaeologists found nine types of stone around the aryballos, and after lab analysis, it was determined that they came from Sicuani, the Urubamba Valley, the city of Cusco (limestone) and Machu Picchu (granite). According to Maqque, this information could prove that the ancient inhabitants of Cusco came from these places to make offerings. Fount: andina.pe |
