Cusco, Jul. 02 (ANDINA). Peru's Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) has announced that a record 129,616 Peruvian tourists visited the Andean city of Cusco in May this year, a 21 percent increase over the previous April.
He pointed out that his ministry, along with the private sector, is making significant progress in the recovery of the local tourism industry. “For example, thanks to Lan Peru's $59 round-trip tickets to Cusco, more than 138,000 tickets were sold during the campaign, allowing more Peruvians to visit Machu Picchu for the first time,” said the minister. Minister Perez also announced a 51 percent increase in hotel occupancy in April from March.

“Tourist arrivals have showed upward trend since the beginning of the Cusco Pone campaign, with a 26% increase in March compared to February, up 12% in April from March, and a 21% growth in May over April,” Peruvian Trade and Tourism Minister Martin Perez said Thursday.
